The Last Days...

Day 11 - here we are all together in the modern square of la bas Charleroi after shopping in the big mall behind us.

we are all together packed with shopping bags, and really exhausted after an afternoon off, in the background you can see the Rive Gauche that’s the biggest commercial centre in Charleroi.
Day 11: in Charleroi we visited the basilica of Saint Christophe that has one of the most beautiful apses in all Belgium. It is a mosaic composition made by Jean Ransy and by the Maison Orsoni in Venice. In the center appears Christ in all his majesty showing the Book of life.
The first and last letter of the Greek alphabet, alpha and omega, mean that He is the origin and the end of everything.
Around him, there are winged figures that represent the four evangelists Mark, Matthew, Luke and John.

Day 11 - On the 16th November we went to Charleroi, a city that is famous for its glass, coal and iron industries. The name of the city was given in honor of King Charles the II of Spain.
The tour guide took us around various buildings of the city, including the municipality, which symbolizes its richness because it was entirely built using precious marble and wood.

Day 12: Sunday, 17 November. This morning we visited the ecomuseum of Virion. Here you can find some machines with which in the past local farmers and workers made clogs both by hand or mechanically. On the second floor of the museum we saw the tools used by all the various ancient crafts such as the shoemaker.
After lunch visited the castle of Chimay, which was absolutely stunning. At the beginning we watched a film about the history of the royal family, when suddenly we were introduced to Princess Elisabeth who told us the story of the family’s portraits in the main hall. Then after a short journey on bus, we got back home just in time for dinner.

Day 12: today we went to the Chateau de Chimay, the Castel where the princess of Chimay lives. We visited different rooms like the theatre, the hall of portraits, the weapon room and the dining room.
We also went to the souvenir store and we bought some stuff.
I really liked this day because I had never met a princess before. It was amazing! The princess was really kind and gentle to us!
Day 12: We went to the eco museum of Treignes to see how wooden clogs (sabots) were manufactured in the past and, mainly, the life of shoemakers, we saw the tools and machinery and observed part of the production process. We also saw how clothes were washed and how soap was made.

Day 12: We visited the Château de Chimay, the home of the Prince and Princess of Chimay. We saw various rooms open to the public (the dining room, entrance, theater, weapon room and living room). We also talked to the Princess, who told us the story of her family and of the royal members who lived and still live in the castle.
